Getting Involved with Maintenance

Course Outcomes

This course is designed for a target audience of artisans/artisan aides/ operations personnel / trainees seeking a career path in Maintenance Management. It will provide a detailed framework around which the participant can usefully put into practice the aims and objectives of maintenance management. It practically demonstrates the principles underlining the key functions of maintenance both from a personnel and equipment practices viewpoint. The course involves practical exposure to current maintenance practices in use at selected sites and an opportunity to put into practice real exposure to maintenance management activities.

Outcomes

On completion of the course participants will be able to:

  • Identify the basic units that make up most industrial plants and systems
  • Differentiate between the symptom, the fault and the cause when fault finding.
  • Demonstrate a logical approach to fault-finding, which will apply in most situations – mechanical, electrical or electronic.
  • Select a fault-finding approach to suit particular situations
  • Recognise and use the aids to efficient fault finding, such as manuals, diagrams, charts and test equipment.
  • Recognise the adverse effect on machine operation of inadequate maintenance procedures and the benefits of planned maintenance.
