Introducing the Business of the Stores

Workshop Outcomes

In this workshop you will learn about some of the functions and activities involved in the activities of a stores or warehouse. You will learn about the responsibilities of a stores person, their basic work activities, the purpose of a store or warehouse and what is meant by the inventory of goods carried in a store or warehouse. You will understand where the stores activity fits in to an organization’s business process, and who gets involved in the activities of the stores.

Outcomes

After completing this workshop, you should be able to do the following:

• State the typical functions of stores personnel
• Describe the purpose of a store or warehouse.
• Describe the cost aspects, functions and classes of inventory
• Describe the classes and types of stock (inventory). Relate these to an example of a stores facility in a business.
• Be able to relate to the function of stores as part of the company’s business .
